Tape Measure

Compared to What?

Why does a builder use a blueprint, tape measure, a level, or a square? Why not just build based on the house across the street or across town? The reasons are obvious. Besides the inconvenience of constantly referring to the other building, there is the potential that it is not exactly right itself. It may be out of square, level, and plumb.

So it is with our lives. Why do we constantly compare ourselves to those around us? Why do we strive to keep up with the Jones’, look like a celebrity, or have success like the rich and famous? If we do this we will not be the person that God intends for us to be.

God loves us with a love that is beyond our comprehension, yet He does not compare us to each other. We must not judge His love for us based on the material possessions that we have or how difficult or great our lives are. The truth is He loves and cares for us equally.

So then, we must compare ourselves to His standard for us. We must look in the mirror of His Word and see how we line up. We might as well do it now, because one day we will be judged, not compared to our friends, neighbors, father, mother, sister, or brother, but by the Word of God. God Bless!
